Other cool stuff that I'm proud of

If you hadn't already guessed, this is a collection of some other cool stuff that I'm proud of, including university work, passion projects and products of me just messing around.

GiffGaff Recycle

In my third year of university, one module required us to submit an entry to the 2021 D&AD New Blood Awards. From a list of available briefs, I chose the 'GiffGaff Recycle Story', which consisted of making an animated TV ad, Instagram story assets and digital display banners all advertising and explaining GiffGiff's recycle scheme in their branding.

It's a project I'm particularly proud of as it was the first time I'd properly incorporated existing brand guidelines into my work, which was very fulfilling because it gave me a sense of professionalism and legitimacy as a designer.

Worcester music festival

In my final major project at university, I needed to submit, along with my dissertation, deliverables that I had created that related to my findings. As my essay discussed the use of graphic design in the music festival industry, I rebranded the Worcester Music Festival, a real-life, volunteer-ran event in the city I lived in at the time. This included created the guidelines from scratch, as well as putting them into action in the form of products that would be used at the festival.

This was a highlight of university for me, as I had full creative control over creating a brand identity for something that I was interested in and applying it to mock-ups and final designs.

Photography on Instagram

In my second year of university, I completed a photography module for my degree and found a new visual medium that I loved. I later bought myself a DSLR and started doing street/nature photography both as a hobby, and to develop another skill for myself.

I take pride in this account as it is a record of my ability to not only learn something new, but also be self-motivated, as this was not a part of any university course or job and I did it simply because I wanted to. Some of my photos were featured on other Instagram accounts, like Manchester Evening News and Worcestershire County Council, which gave me a sense of validation to my hobby.
